Port Facility Security Officer (DfT) Course

Background

Every port must have a Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP). The plan is the framework for the measures required to provide a safe and sterile working environment for international shipping operators by preventing the unauthorised access of people, weapons and contraband into port.

As specified by The International Ship and Port-Facility Security (ISPS) Code, it is the responsibility of the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) to manage the development, implementation, revision and maintenance of the PFSP. Our course qualifies you to take up this role.

Who is the course for?

Any security officer with overall responsibility for port security working to Department for Transport guidelines.

Completing the course will enable you to:

  • Carry out PFSO responsibilities in line with the ISPS Code and UK requirements
  • Manage, revise and improve port facility security plans
  • Coordinate security operations and effective search operations
  • Understand ISPS code 2012 security levels and implement relevant actions
  • Develop, maintain and review port facility access control
  • Carry out port security assessments and threat evaluations

How is the course assessed?

You will be assessed through an exam at the end of the course.
