Course Duration: 4 hours (1 hour exam only with pre-course study)

Aim: Any business conducting guarding activity to secure a building or site may need trained security staff qualified as security officers who hold a SIA licence.

Security Officers are often the first point of contact between many businesses and members of the public. It is important therefore that they are effectively trained and meet legal requirements in what can be a challenging environment.

The Level 2 Award for Working as a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry Top Up is aimed at learners who want to re-apply for a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work legally as a Security Officer. The course is designed for learners who currently hold a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a door Security Officer and need to be brought up to date with the new licence-linked qualification requirements.

Course Outline:

• Unit 01 Terror Threat Awareness in the private security industry
• Unit 02 Minimising risk in the private security industry

Learners will need to show that they hold a current and valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate* that meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. Learners should present their First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate* to their training provider before they start training. This certificate* must be valid for at least 12 months from the course start date.
